Riding the Rails
Since it began operating in 1981, the San Diego Trolley has become a model modern light-rail system, copied by cities around the world. Bright red trolley cars traverse three color-coded routes covering the eastern part of San Diego County, San Diego State University, Mission Valley, Downtown San Diego, the South Bay and all the way to the Mexican border. And the trolley’ s UC San Diego Blue Line Extension has just been completed, providing a scenic ride north to the Westfield UTC mall, La Jolla, UC San Diego and more. Trolley fares vary with the distance traveled; ticket machines are available at all stations, including several important hubs. Stations at the San Diego Convention Center and Petco Park make it easy for delegates to get around quickly, inexpensively and safely.
